You only have to take the briefest glance at my blog to learn that I’m not the best photographer. I’m doing my best to learn because great photos help tell a great story. Along with scouring the internet for articles and information, I’ve been testing out some portable equipment that might help me fake it ’til I make it. Zeso offered to let me try out their new 3-in-1 lens kit for a discounted price in exchange for my honest opinions.
I was confused when I first got the lens kit in the mail; to my eye, there were only two lenses instead of the advertised three. It actually took me several days to figure out that the wide-angle lens is actually the macrolens with another lens on top. The two together form the wide-angle lens. The third, large looking lens is the fisheye.
The “official” terms for the three lenses are 198 Fisheye Lens, 15X Macro Lens, and 0.63X Wide Angle Lens. Not that those made any sense to me when I got them. This picture makes the carrying case look HUGE, but it’s actually only about 3″x4″. Teeny tiny and easy to carry around in my purse.
I’d never used or even heard of a lens for a camera phone, so I was picturing something that would screw onto the little camera piece. Instead, there’s a clamp with a place for the lens to screw in. You line up the clamp with your camera and add the lens you want. I have to admit, it was hard to put the lens on my Note 3, which has an Otterbox on it. I ended up using the lens with my Iphone 6 instead. It’s not the most stable way to keep the lens on, but it works as long as you don’t bump it on anything.
Now for the good stuff: the pictures. I tried to take the same picture with different lenses to show what difference the lens make. I took the photos from the same angle, except for with the macro lens, which won’t focus unless you’re incredibly close to the object.
The picture quality is really good, it’s easy to use, and easy to switch lenses. It’s a great accessory kit. I think that I was looking for the “magic toolkit” that will make me instantaneously into a great photographer with millions of Instagram followers. Guess what? That kit doesn’t exist. I’m still going to have to put time and effort into learning how to photograph. However, this kit will definitely help me as I progress on my photography journey.
